With more students scoring higher this year, the merit list cutoff has increased at some of the city’s top colleges. For example, Mount Carmel College (MCC) has seen a 2–4% increase in cutoff scores during streams.
The highest cutoff marks in the first merit list are for the most demanding courses – Communication Studies and BA Honors, reaching 88% from last year’s 88%. The cutoff for BCom Hons and BCom Professional has reached 89% as against 87% last year. While psychology combination has seen a jump of 4% (84%) for journalism courses, it is up to 3% (80%).
“The cutoff has increased as the composite average taken for CBSE and ISC papers has raised scores of many students. The number of students applying with high marks is increasing. The cutoffs for emerging programs, which are seeing good response, are high. MCC public relations officer Raghu VN said traditional arts and science programs also have a 75-77% reduction compared to 70% last year.
St. Joseph’s College is seeing a similar trend. “Compared to last year, the cutoff has increased this year and has reached 93% -95% in the general category for subjects like BCom. This time there has been a tremendous improvement in good scores and scores,” said Father Victor Lobo, The principal said.
NMKRV College for Women said that the cutoff is expected to increase by 1-2% if it is off the first list. “We are noticing a change in the scoring pattern and the cutoff is expected to increase by 1-2%. Our Journalism-English-Psychology course and BCom attract the most in-demand students with over 90% marks, ”said Snehlata GN.
HN Meera, Principal of Seshadripuram College, said that he expected to see an increase of about 80% in the cutoff like last year.
