New Delhi: Due to the cancellation of the existing COVID-19 status and Class XII exams by several education boards, the Joint Admission Board has decided to relax the eligibility criteria for admission to IITs on Friday. The IIT decided that the eligible candidates who passed the Class XII examination would now be eligible for admission irrespective of the marks obtained.

A candidate of general category rank in JEE (Advance) for admission to IITs should also score at least 75% or figure in the top 20 percent results of their board to secure a seat in an IIT. For SC / ST candidates, candidates should either score at least 65% or fulfill the top 20 percent requirement.

JAB decided to relax the eligibility criteria, which requires only the passing marks of class XII for a candidate who has passed JEE (Advanced).

HRD Union Minister Ramesh Pokhriyal announced the decision, tweeting, “Apart from passing JEE (Advanced) for admission to IITs, qualification secured a minimum score of 75% marks in class XII board examination or rank. Had to do. Top 20 percent in their qualification exams

“Due to the cancellation of class XII exams by several boards, the Joint Admission Board (JAB) has decided to relax the eligibility criteria for JEE (Advanced) 2020 qualified candidates this time.”

The twice postponed JEE (Main) examination will now be held from September 1 to 6, while the JEE (Advanced) conducted by IIT is to be held on September 27, 2020.
