JAIPUR: The Governor of Rajasthan has received a revised proposal from the state cabinet led by Chief Minister Ashok Gehlot requesting that the assembly session be convened on July 31 to discuss the status of coronovirus in the state, Raj Bhavan sources said on Sunday. Said to

Governor Kalraj Mishra on Friday sought an explanation from the state government on six points after a five-hour sit-in by Congress MLAs in the Raj Bhavan lawn for the assembly session. According to the Congress, Mishra said that he would abide by the constitution and would not take action under any pressure.
The governor asked Gehlot to clarify again, his recommendation to call the session. A statement from the Governor included questions on the free movement of MLAs and for this reason the session needed to be called immediately.
After sitting late on Friday night, the cabinet re-met at Gehlot’s residence on Saturday, approving the new draft.

On Friday, the governor asked the government why it wanted to call an assembly session to prove its majority if it was already one. Governor Mishra in his note to the state government said, “Nobody is above constitutional honor and no coercive politics should be resorted to.” He said that no date was stated in the Cabinet note attached to the Government’s first request.
The governor had said that the government did not give any reason for convening the session in such a short time.
Eight more COVID-19 deaths were reported in Rajasthan on Sunday, taking the number to 621 as 611 new cases of infection brought the state’s status to 35,909.
Health Department officials said that there are currently 9,935 active cases and 24,250 people have been discharged after treatment.
