John Grisham is known for writing a legal thriller. But in 2017, he wrote ‘Camino Island’ – a thriller set on a fictional resort island in Florida with the largest bookstore, a community of writers and vacationers – that was a bestseller. Grisham’s new book ‘Camino Winds’ was released in April 2020 and is the second book in the Camino Island series.

Camino Island of Florida is affected by the deadly Hurricane Leo. While the governor issued an order to evacuate the island residents, some of them decided to stay back, including Bruce Cable of Bay Books. The storm was devastating to say the least – many people have died and property has been ruined. While Bruce survives, his writer friend Nelson Kerr dies. One report states that Nelson died due to a blow to his head and not from the storm. But since the local police are overwhelmed with disaster management tasks, they are unable to investigate Nelson’s murder. Bruce takes the case into his own hands and begins the search for the real killer.

Nelson was known for his time on political adventures and as Bruce begins investigating, he begins to question whether Nelson had more for fictional characters. When Bruce crosses over Nelson’s unfinished new novel, he starts reading between the lines and everything he does is very dangerous. Will Bruce be able to locate Nelson’s killer while his life is at risk?

Although ‘Camino Winds’ is the second book in the Camino Island series, it can also be read as a standalone novel. The book’s setting will take you to the fictional beach while the twist in the story keeps you hooked until the very end, which makes it a good read.

How critics view the book:

Publisher weekly Says, “Grisham has an intriguing and elaborate plot with a winning ensemble of eminent writers and book lovers. Readers will be expected to return to this fascinating vacation hot spot soon.”

Kirkus Review Writes, “A delight for Grisham’s fans and a dilemma for the beach bag.”
