Bhopal: A Coronavirus-positive Congress MLA arrived in the Madhya Pradesh Assembly in an ambulance wearing a PPE kit to vote for the Rajya Sabha election. The 37-year-old MLA is the president of Madhya Pradesh Youth Congress and a first-time MLA from Kalapipal constituency. He tested positive for Kovid-19 on 13 June and was released at his official residence in the state capital.
The Congress has 92 MLAs in 230 houses, with a total strength of 206 currently with 24 vacant seats. All 206 MLAs from Congress, BJP and others voted for the Rajya Sabha election on Friday. However, the Congress MLA was the last MLA to vote. Although he is still a coronovirus positive, he was allowed to vote by the returning officer, but with some precautions. The remaining 205 MLAs have completed voting in the Madhya Pradesh state assembly by 12 noon.
Meanwhile, 108 ambulance arrived at Chowdhary’s residence shortly before 12.30 pm. That PPE kit was attended by Health Department staff and the MLA was also covered in white PPE suits from head to toe and carried only his mobile phone. He reached the assembly shortly before 1 pm and was taken to the polling station when all the other MLAs left.
Election officials stood in a safe place away from him while casting his final vote. Speaking to TOI, he said, “I arrived at the state assembly in a PPE kit suit. I traveled in an ambulance, which was in a PPE kit by the officials. I voted for my party’s candidate and returned home.” ”
BJP spokespersons Hitesh Vajpayee and Lokendra Parashar objected to the Kovid-19 Posite Congress MLA casting his vote for the Rajya Sabha election. But the returning officer AP Singh said that all necessary precautions have been taken and he has become the last person to vote due to his health condition.
