Mumbai: After the Bakri Eid and Ganesh festivals, Maharashtra Chief Minister Uddhav Thackeray on Saturday reiterated that religious, social and political gatherings are banned in the state in view of the Kovid-19 epidemic.
Addressing the collectors and municipal commissioners through a virtual meeting, the CM called for replicating the Dharavi model elsewhere in the state to control the outbreak of the viral.
“Care must be taken to ensure that new control areas are not formed,” he said.
The WHO recently praised the successful control of coronoviruses spread in Dharavi, a prominent slum in Mumbai.
The CM also asked the officials to appoint an auditor for Kovid hospitals to ensure that there is no migration to the patients.
He also asked to ensure that adequate facilities are provided at institutional quarantine centers in every district.
The CM called for the implementation of the Mahatma Jyotiba Phule Jan Arogya Yojana and to monitor the availability of beds in hospitals.
“Currently, 540 patients are on ventilator support in the state,” he said, adding that each district will now have nodal testing officers.
The government has decided to ramp up the swab collection as well as rapid antigen tests.
The CM said that Rs 2,000 will be given to every plasma donor and asked the officials to create awareness among the people.
BMC Commissioner IS Chahal, who attended the meeting, suggested setting up an integrated command center for the Mumbai Metropolitan Region (MMR), where information about all facilities would be made available.
He also suggested computerization of bed management.
MMR is seeing a spike in new cases.
The Commissioner said that asymptomatic patients need not be admitted to the hospital so that beds are available for needy patients.
Thackeray said that the lockdown period, which occurs in municipal corporations, should be used to track contact and bring down mortality.
CM said, “Lockdown should not be taken under pressure. Only implement it if you are confident that it will help in dealing with the epidemic. Coronavirus should not reach rural areas from urban areas,” CM said.
Health Minister Rajesh Tope and Medical Education Minister Amit Deshmukh also attended the meeting.
