COIMBATORE: Russell’s Viper, one of the most poisonous snakes, gave birth to 35 snakes in a village here on Friday.
A resident of Kowamedu, Manoharan saw the snake in his bathroom and enlisted the help of Murali, the snake catcher.
Murali caught the snake and identified him as Russell’s viper. He put him in a gun bag to leave him in the woods.
Within minutes, he realized that the snake was giving birth to snakes and placed the bag under a tree.
After two hours, they found 35 snakes. Murali said that the snake and its jawans would be released in the forest of Satyamangalam in Erode district.
While other snakes lay eggs and hatch them, Russell’s viper is a fallopian species that bites eggs internally and gives birth to young people.
Soon after the birth of the child, he catches the snake and becomes highly toxic immediately after birth.
