The apex court was hearing an appeal filed by the Mother Devi of a Class 10 board examiner against the May 29 order of the Rajasthan High Court, which rejected the demand for cancellation of the remaining examinations conducted by the state’s Board of Secondary Education . .
The appeal said that Rajasthan’s Board of Secondary Education had passed a guideline on June 29 and June 30 to conduct the remaining two Class 10 papers and 11,86,418 students were expected to appear.
It said that the board had conducted the final examination on 18 March and thereafter the examinations were postponed due to COVID-19 epidemic and nationwide lockout.
The appeal further states that around 120 schools, which were marked as examination centers, were used while transferring migrant workers to their places of origin.
The appeal comes with the June 26 order of the apex court, along with the remaining examinations of the Class 10 and Class 12 examinations of the CBSE board, as well as the ICSE board.
The appeal sought an interim stay on the remaining examinations to be held on Monday and Tuesday. The petitioner before the High Court had sought cancellation of the remaining examinations to be conducted by CBSE due to COVID-19.
On 26 June, the apex court approved the plans of CBSE and ICSE to cancel the remaining board exams scheduled from 1 to 15 July due to the COVID-19 epidemic and approved their formula for evaluation of the candidates.
The apex court had allowed the Central Board of Secondary Education (CBSE) to cancel the remaining board exams of class 10 and 12 and issue notification regarding the evaluation of marks, while the Council for the Indian School Certificate Examination (CISCE) Said that it will upload the notification on its website within a week.
The apex court order came on a batch of pleas seeking relief, including the cancellation of the remaining Class 12 exams scheduled from July 1-15, in view of the increasing number of COVID-19 cases. Similar relief was also sought for the ICSE Board.
The CBSE Class 12 exams started on February 15 and were to end on April 3. The Class 10 exams started on February 21 and were to end on March 29.
The ICSE board had postponed its Class 10 and 12 examinations due to an outbreak of Coronavirus and was due to end on 31 March. However, nationwide lockout came into effect from March 25 to prevent the spread of the coronovirus epidemic.
