New Delhi: About 30 groups from India, from big industry players to individual academics, are trying to develop vaccines to fight coronovirus, said Vijay Raghavan, chief scientific advisor on Thursday.
20 of these 30 are working well, he said.
“Around 30 groups in India are trying to develop vaccines to fight Kovid-19, a large industry of individual academics, 20 of which are running at a good pace,” Vijayaraghavan said in a media briefing.
He said that the development of the vaccine currently takes about 10 years, but the goal worldwide is to find a vaccine for coronovirus in a year.
He said that designing new drugs is a “very big challenge” and like the vaccine, it takes a very long time.
“Most attempts fail and thus you have to put in a lot of effort,” he said.
Vijay Raghavan said that the Council of Scientific and Industrial Research and AICTE have also started the Drug Discovery Hackathon.
