NEW DELHI: Maoist surrenders have seen a quantum jump this year, with 472 surrenders reported as against 313 throughout 2013 as of 31 October. Of course, Chhattisgarh has single-handedly contributed to this increase, surrendering 247 by the end of October. , From just 28 in 2013.
Incidentally, Chhattisgarh has also recorded a large increase in the number of arrested Naxalites this year. According to the data shared by the Union Home Ministry in response to a question in the Lok Sabha on Tuesday, arrests in the state increased from 387 in 2013 to 517 till October 15 this year.
However, a nearly nine-fold increase in surrender and a significant increase in arrest is essentially confined to Chhattisgarh.
