Guwahati: Five more people died in flood-related incidents in Assam, affecting nearly 40 lakh people in 27 of the state’s 33 districts, an official bulletin said on Thursday.
Two people died in Morigaon district, while one person died in Lakhimpur, Barpeta and Golpara districts.
According to the Assam State Disaster Management Authority (ASDMA) daily bulletin, flood waters entered large areas of a new district, affecting more than 4 lakh people since Wednesday.
This year, the total number of people who lost their lives in floods and landslides in the state has increased to 97 across the state. While 71 people died in flood-related incidents, 26 were killed in landslides.
