75 additional flights to the US, Canada in June; Foreigners can fly on them: Hardeep Puri

New Delhi: Air India will operate 75 additional flights to North America this month and foreign nationals can fly on them. It will take some time to resume the scheduled international flights and by then Vande India flights will be flying to eligible people in and out of India.
Aviation Minister HS Puri said in a series of tweets on Wednesday: “Air India has announced that it will open bookings for 75 additional flights in the US and Canada from 5 pm on June 5, including New York, Newark, Chicago, Washington, San Francisco comprising the third phase under San Francisco, Vancouver and Toronto Vande Bharat Mission Between 9–30 June 2020. Those who wish to travel to the US and Canada and meet the required entry conditions can book themselves on these outbound flights. Some foreign airlines have already taken evacuation flights and are planning to operate more flights. These flights will also take foreign nationals. ”

On the issue of resuming international flights, Puri tweeted: “General international civil aviation operations will only begin when they can. Right now most of our metro cities are in one form or the other of restrictions due to which people from other cities cannot travel to catch flights and we also need mandatory quarantine on arrival. ”

“We have to wait for domestic operations to touch about 50-60% and the behavior of the virus and its spread to fully lift these restrictions or lockdowns. Till then flights under the Vande Bharat Mission have inbound and outbound international passengers. ”

While medium to long Wanda India flights using its wide body fleet of Bold 777 and 787 are only operated by Air India, flights from the Gulf regions to private Indian airlines like IndiGo and SpiceJet chip with AI will see.
