A case has been registered against a man and his three sons in Dharanwala on Tuesday after a video went viral in which they tied up mentally handicapped youths and dragged them into the streets.
The FIR was registered on the complaint of a laborer of Chak 133 Dehranwala named Shahbaz. In the FIR, he alleged that his mentally handicapped brother Shahid had been harassed by Muhammad Irshad and his sons Atiq, Wasim and Tauseef for several days. He alleged that on March 10, they took Shahid away from his house, tied him up with ropes, dragged him into the streets and beat him with sticks.
Mentally handicapped youths often carried stones, knives and other items and chased and attacked people, police sources said. Police sources claimed that some people retaliated and attacked him.
The DPO told the PRO that the family of the mentally handicapped person had not lodged a complaint with the local police. However, he said that after the video came to light, the DPO of Bahawalnagar took notice and the local police contacted the family and a case was registered.
