American air travelers got the most in more than eight months, as passengers took public health officials’ advice into consideration to avoid traveling during the Thanksgiving holiday.
The US Transportation Security Administration said on Monday that the number of passengers at domestic airports was 1,176,091 on Sunday. This is the highest since March, when the coronovirus epidemic reduced travel demand.
The airline’s journey also accelerated when public health officials and state leaders urged people to stay home and limit holiday celebrations to prevent further growth in Kovid-19 cases. Before the holiday, Director of the National Institute of Allergy and Infectious Diseases, Dr. Anthony Fauci said that people should “think twice” about the trip.
Despite the increase, Sunday’s passenger total was only 41% of the previous year’s level. Before the holiday week, the passenger in November was around 35% of 2019 levels.
American Airlines Group Inc., United Airlines Holdings Inc. and Southwest Airlines Co. warned before Thanksgiving that bookings were softening due to news of increased infections, hospitalizations and deaths due to the Kovid-19.
A standard and poor index of major US airlines fell 1.8% at 11:21 in the morning, dropping US 4.3% to $ 14.33.
US gasoline demand had been declining since last week, according to GasBuddy, a drop of more than 25% over the previous year.
