New Delhi: Amazon India on Wednesday said it will provide free COVID-19 health insurance to its vendors in the country to help them get hospitalized and cover treatment expenses.
Amazon India Vice President Vendor Services Gopal Pillai said that the insurance, which will be valid for one year after activation, covers expenses related to COVID-19 hospitalization and treatment as well as ambulance assistance and ICU charges up to Rs 50,000. Will help
He said that Amazon will pay the full premium for this health insurance and has partnered with Eko General Insurance (Eko) to manage policy delivery and claims and reimbursement.
Pillai said that insurance will benefit millions of sellers on Amazon India’s platform.
He stated that the insurance cover would be available to the proprietor of the vendor entity and could be used by the vendors who have given active product listings on Amazon.in between January 2019 to May 26, 2020.

Amazon India will open a nomination window of seven days, during which sellers can enroll themselves by providing personal personal details and KYC documents. No medical examination will be required for registration.
Once the requisite details are processed, vendors will be issued a unique health identification (UHID) number by Eko, which they can use to file their claims (cashless) and reimbursement.
To claim COVID-19 related hospitalization and treatment expenses, registered vendors must intimate Eko.
The standard waiting period of 15 days will apply at the beginning of the insurance policy, the company said.
Last month, Amazon India reduced its commission fee by 50 percent by June-end for sellers on its platform who sold goods for Rs 10,000 or less prior to the coronovirus outbreak in India.
Pillai said the profits so far rolled out to vendors in the country in the form of insurance, commission fee waivers and others are “incremental” to a $ 1 billion investment plan for SMEs that was announced in January this year.
In April, Amazon India promised Rs 10 crore to expand its pilot to bring offline retailers and local shops to its platform.
