Kakinada: Gola Mamdada is a village located about 20 kilometers from Kakinada, amidst lush green fields and coconut groves.
Otherwise the obstruction that otherwise would have been done in Pedapudi mandal of East Godavari district is now gaining the dubious distinction of being the first village in the country to confirm 116 cases of Kovid-19 as of Wednesday.

On 20 May, a 53-year-old Kovid-19 infected man from the village succumbed to complications caused by the virus at the Government General Hospital (GGH) in Kakinada within half an hour of entry.
The deceased, who worked in a hotel and was a photographer, is believed to have been a super-spreader due to the nature of his job, as well as delaying the onset of symptoms. The patient transmitted the virus directly or indirectly to at least 150 people in Pedapudi mandal and neighboring Ramachandrapuram, Unparti, Bikakovolu and Mandapeta mandal.
It is believed that the deceased contracted the virus, covering a recent incident in Ramachandrapuram.
It was also revealed that the deceased had attended a mask distribution event organized by a local organization.
However, district officials are yet to ascertain the origin of the disease in the super spreader. In addition, the deceased’s son was also diagnosed with the disease around the same time as his father, who expressed suspicion as to who transmitted the virus. According to officials, before the positive test, the son held a party for his friends at the local bakery.
Meanwhile, outbreaks of these divisions put Kovid-19 in East Godavari above 300, with super-spreader-related infections alone in more than 50 percent of the district’s cases.
The district authorities have declared G. Mamidada village a red zone and a special control room has been set up by drawing from officials of various departments.
East Godavari Collector D Muralidhar Reddy said that the dead may have contributed to the outbreak in G Mamidada and neighboring Mandal after the 17 May relaxation in locking norms.
The collector said, “All primary and secondary contacts of Kovid-19 infected persons are being tested.”
