AMARAVATI: The Andhra Pradesh government will go ahead with the decision to introduce English medium for classes 1 to 6, Chief Minister YS Jagan Mohan Reddy said on Wednesday, expressing determination for comprehensive reform in the education system. He also said that education is the only answer to poverty.

Reddy said that the government would go ahead with its plan to bring English medium from classes 1 to 6, although a law in this regard, which was passed in the state assembly, has been challenged in the court.

In a brainstorming session with Education Department officials and other stakeholders, the Chief Minister said, “There may be some initial problems but we are ready to face the challenges.”

The state government is training teachers and bridge courses to children and “very soon, we can pass children, complete board exams, in natural curriculum”, he said on the decision to introduce English medium.

Reddy said that some vested interests have tried to block the decision to introduce English medium from classes 1 to 6.

“We moved to the top (supreme) court and our resolve is firm and we will move forward with reforms,” he said.

The Chief Minister said that two surveys have found that parents want English medium education for their children.

“We have conducted a survey keeping in mind the views of parents’ committees on the English medium, and 94 per cent have responded in confirmation. Another survey was done, this time reaching the parents of 40 lakh students. They were asked to choose their option, and 96 percent said they want to send their children to study in English medium, ”the chief minister said.

The State Council of Educational Research and Training (SCERT) has suggested that one Telugu medium per division would be a good option. “We will explore all options and move decisively through the English medium as poverty can only be overcome by education,” Reddy said.

Apart from reforms in the education sector, the state government is providing incentives under the ‘Amma Vodi Yojana’, where credit of Rs 15,000 is given to a mother’s account for sending her child to school.

In January, Rs.3,350 crore was given to about 43 lakh mothers under the scheme benefiting around 82 lakh children from class 1 to class 12, unlike last year, this year the state government will insist on 75 percent attendance of children. .

On the day of the school’s reopening, this time on August 3, children will be given a ‘Jaganna Vidya Kanuka Kit’, with three pairs alike, belts, shoes, socks, text and note books and school bags.

When the child goes for college education, the state government has decided to provide full fee reimbursement to the students to increase the enrollment ratio.

The Chief Minister also discussed reforms being done to enhance the education infrastructure under the Ned Nada Nedu program.

In the meeting, Reddy also shared that his government has cleared the previous quarter dues of Rs 1,880 crore for the benefit of 19 lakh students and paid full reimbursement till this quarter, which is Rs 4,200 crore. .

He said that from next quarter this amount will be deposited in Mata’s account.
