Islamabad: An accountability court here on Monday convicted former Pakistan President Asif Ali Zardari in the Park corruption case.
Zardari appeared in court via video link from Bilawal House Karachi. According to The Express Tribune, he pleaded not guilty and the trial would continue.
Judge Muhammad Azam Khan heard the case and during the hearing Zardari said that he cannot be convicted in the absence of lawyers as he is in the Supreme Court. However, the court rejected Zardari’s plea and said that the former Pakistan The president will be convicted and his lawyer will be absent if he does not appear in court.
Other accused in the case – Anwar Majeed, Sher Ali, Farooq Abdullah, head of Omni Group Salim faisal And Muhammad Hanif was also guilty during the trial.
According to the indictment, Zardari influenced officials concerned to issue loans to related companies during his tenure as president. He was charged with being a director of a Park Lane firm and planning to commit fraud.
With a false intention, Zardari allegedly got a loan of Rs 1.5 billion for his front company, Parthenon Private Limited, and the amount was transferred for personal use through fake accounts.
The Park Tribune reported that allegations of a Park Lane corruption case involving Lardon’s alleged debt by Parlionen Pty Ltd and its misuse by Parthenon Pty Ltd were being investigated.
The National Accountability Bureau (NAB) has accused Zardari of causing a loss of Rs 3.77 billion to the national exchequer through fake bank accounts.
In a 13-page NAB reference against the former chairman and other accused, NAB alleged that the accused created benami property Park Lane Company, Is using Parthenon Private Limited as a front organization.
