NEW DELHI: New Vodacom Group announced that Balesh Sharma has been appointed MD and CEO Vodacom south africa Reporting to Shomel Josub, CEO, Vodacom Group. For the Vodacom Group to play a central role in overseeing all its operations African Footprint, It has necessitated the creation of a standalone South African operating company, which will be headed by Balesh Sharma in the newly created role of Managing Director of Vodacom South Africa.
Balesh is currently the director of Vodafone Group’s Special Projects, running strategic projects globally, including supporting the roll out of a new telecommunications operation in Oman. Balesh is also on the Vodafone Group Covid19 PMO, working with Covid19 Response Driving for African markets.
Prior to this, Balesh was CEO of Vodafone Idea (Vodafone JV in India) and Chief Operating Officer of Vodafone India. There he successfully oversaw the integration of Vodafone Idea and ended the joint business strategy and execution, gave ample synergy to the subsequent merger of the very first year, and completed the largest equity growth in India.
Prior to joining Vodafone Idea, Balesh was the Chairman and Chief Executive Officer Vodafone Czech Republic And Vodafone Malta Continuously, where they returned the Czech business to increase revenue and market share by implementing a 2-year turnaround strategy; And reverse the decline in revenue and market shares in Vodafone Malta by driving innovative expansion of non-connectivity revenues.
Balesh is an alumnus of Harvard Business School (AMP 197) and Mayo College, and completed his degree in mechanical engineering from Engineering College, Kota and an MBA (Mktg & Fin) from Podar Institute. Of Mgt. (Rajasthan University), Jaipur.
