Brussel: Belgium will reopen, Restaurant Other areas of social and cultural life from 8 June, but not in nightclubs, a government minister said on Wednesday.
Federal Budget Minister David Clarinval’s comments came ahead of a government meeting later in the day to announce a further easing of the coronovirus lockdown.
“All areas will reopen, but unfortunately not for nightclubs” Clarenval told LA Premier Television. Tourist attractions, camp sites and movie theaters will resume with sports training and matches behind closed doors.
Clarinval said that Belgium would be allowed to meet more people, ending a rule stating that a maximum of four people were allowed to visit the same house.
“All numbers are green,” Clarenval said, as Belgium reported only 70 new cases of COVID-19 on Wednesday.
With a population of 11.5 million, Belgium is one of the countries most affected by COVID-19, but it phased out lockdown measures in early May.
After the reopening of non-food shops last month, the country allowed schools, markets, museums and zoos to partially re-operate. Belgium may decide to reopen its borders with European countries from 15 June.
Belgium has so far registered a total of 58,685 cases of COVID-19 and 9,522 deaths.
