NEW DELHI: After the unveiling of the statue of Swami Vivekananda at Jawaharlal Nehru University (JNU), its vice-chancellor Jagdish Kumar expressed confidence on Thursday that the spiritual leader’s teachings would be followed by the students.

“We are very happy that the statue of Swami Vivekananda will be inaugurated today by our Prime Minister and I am confident that Swami Ji’s teachings will be followed by JNU and the University will be an active participant in transforming our country into Atmanbir India, “Kumar said.

Earlier in today’s event where the Prime Minister is about to unveil the statue of Swami Vivekananda at JNU Campus, Jawaharlal Nehru University Students Union (JNUSU) wrote an open letter to Prime Minister Narendra Modi asking why the Center recommended JNU Vice Chancellor M Jagadish Kumar’s appointment, accusing him of leaving no stone unturned to “destroy” the university.

A statement issued earlier by the university read that Prime Minister Modi will unveil the life-size statue of Swami Vivekananda installed on 6 November at 6:30 pm through video conferencing.

The statue will be unveiled before a program at Swami Vivekananda from 5:30 pm.

“Swami Vivekananda is one of India’s most beloved intellectuals and spiritual leaders, who has been fortunate to produce. He enthused the youth with the message of freedom, development, harmony and peace in India.
