Bihar flood 2020: 11 districts flood in Bihar, 1.5 million people affected

Additional Secretary of Disaster Management Ramchandra Do said that the Disaster Management Department is doing rescue and relief work in view of the increased water level of various rivers in Bihar. Due to increase in the water level of the rivers, 625 panchayats have been submerged in 86 blocks of 11 districts of Bihar and about 1.5 million people have been affected.
He claimed that around 14,011 people are living in 26 relief camps. About 463 community kitchens are being run in the flood-affected areas, serving food to about 1,77,065 people every day. He informed that the teams of NDRF and SDRF are engaged in relief and rescue work in all flood-hit districts. He said that about 1,36,464 people have been evacuated from the affected areas by the NDRF, SDRF with the help of boats.
He said that food packets are dropped by helicopters for the flood affected people. People have taken shelter of higher access on national highways and embankments.
However, people complain that the government lacks adequate facilities for flood-affected people. The situation has worsened in Gopalganj, Darbhanga and Muzaffarpur. Many flood-affected people are living on the streets of Gopalganj and Muzaffarpur.
