GUWAHATI: Candidates dissatisfied with the statistical evaluation-based results of Class XII state board exams will get a chance to appear in a special offline test.

The Assam Higher Secondary Education Council (AHSEC) on Wednesday announced a special Higher Secondary Final Examination-2021 for students dissatisfied with the marks awarded to them as per the evaluation formula recommended by the alternative method of evaluation committee constituted by the government.

AHSEC in its notification said that the candidates who want to appear in the particular exam have to contact their respective institutes. AHSEC said that the schedule of the special examination will be announced soon.

AHSEC examination controller Pankaj Borthakur said, “Schools and colleges will have to apply through a portal, which will open on August 9 and close on August 15 at 5 pm.”

The council informed that the marks of practical subjects will remain unchanged and will be treated as same as the previous mark sheet. “There will be no separate practical examination in the special examination,” read the AHSEC notification.

All categories of students such as those going for Regular, Re-appearance, Improvement, Repetition, Certain Subjects and Compartmental examinations along with all those candidates who applied online for the canceled Higher Secondary Final Examination-2021 with their subjects , they are eligible to attend. AHSEC clarified, “In no case, change in any subject other than the subject(s) applied for for the canceled Higher Secondary Final Examination-II O 21 shall be allowed.”

It said that the mark sheet of the particular examination will be issued to the candidates after proper evaluation and accordingly, the mark sheet issued to them as per the previous mark giving formula will be treated as cancelled. “The original mark-sheet should be submitted to the center in-charge of the examination center concerned for obtaining the admit card before the commencement of the particular examination,” the notification said.

The Board of Secondary Education, Assam has already announced a special exam for the class X examinees of the state board. Candidates can apply for the special exam from 5th to 12th August on the official portal of SEBA.

Even as physical classes are yet to start in the state due to the prevailing COVID situation, sources in the education department told TOI that special tests may be conducted for class X and XII candidates before offline classes are allowed. Huh. A senior education department official said, “If the number of applicants is not large, then special examinations can be conducted at the earliest, following the COVID protocol. However, the approval of the health department and the state government is going to be mandatory. ”

This year a record 6.55 lakh students cleared the state board exams of class 10th and 12th. Despite the unusually high pass percentage, students in some parts of the state are protesting the alleged partisan approach adopted by schools against them. Failed candidates are especially upset with their results without physical examination.

One failed candidate said, “Our records do not prove that we are not good enough to pass the exam.”
