ISLAMABAD: The long march of Pakistan Democratic Movement (PDM) will start from March 26 and will end on March 30 in the federal capital.

This was stated by JUI-F chief Maulana Fazlur Rehman during a press conference on Monday. The PDM chief was joined by PPP chairperson Bilawal Bhutto Zardari and PML-N vice-president Maryam Nawaz when they shared details of an important meeting of the opposition alliance.

“The long march will start on March 26. Caravans from all over the country will participate,” he said. “We call on the entire nation to play its part in ending this illegitimate and unconstitutional government,” the JUI-F chief added.

Fazal said the PDM convoy would arrive in Islamabad on March 30, adding that another meeting of the opposition leadership would be held on March 15 in the capital to discuss the formation of protesters.

“Then more details about the march will come out,” he said.

PDM’s long march should start from Karachi on March 26: Special Committee

The PDM should start its anti-government long march from Karachi on March 26 and end it in Islamabad on March 30.

These and other suggestions were sent by a special committee of the PDM during an important meeting of the party chaired by PDM chief Maulana Fazlur Rehman on Monday.

The committee said all parties would bear the cost of arranging the convoy of supporters for the long march. The long march, which started from Karachi on March 26, was expected to end in Islamabad on March 30 at 3 pm when all participants arrived in the federal capital for the protest.

The committee recommended that political parties campaign actively for the long march and ensure the participation of a large number of their supporters. The committee proposed that a central camp be set up at Faizabad Interchange in Islamabad to welcome the marchers.

The committee said that all the opposition parties would organize their workers as part of the PDM and bear their expenses. It said that the leadership of the opposition alliance should immediately visit all the four provinces of the country to mobilize the people.

Further discussing the strategy for the Long March, the committee suggested that the PDM be made a cohesive system to mobilize the people.

The committee demanded the PDM to form various committees for the long march, such as food, medical, finance and legal committees.

“Arrangements should be made for the participants of the long march before they reach Islamabad,” the committee said. The committee further said that the sit-in protest should continue till the demands of the opposition are accepted.

The committee recommended that “collective liaison be established with farmers, laborers and traders.”
