Covid – 19% of patients show only gastrointestinal symptoms: study

Toronto: According to a study, about one in five patients with COVD-19 may have gastrointestinal symptoms, such as nausea and diarrhea.
Researchers say the results show that abdominal radiologists need to be vigilant during infectious diseases and when imaging patients.
He said that the gastrointestinal symptoms associated with Covid-19 vary widely but may include loss of appetite, nausea, vomiting, diarrhea and general abdominal pain.
The study, published in the journal Abdominal Radiology, found that 18% of patients present with symptoms, while 16% of cases of covid may present with gastrointestinal symptoms only.
Mitch Wilson, a radiologist and clinical lecturer at Alberta University in Canada, said:
The researchers examined the results from 36 studies published through July 15 to reach their conclusions.
In addition to gastrointestinal symptoms, they also determined that potential symptoms radiologists should look for when imaging the abdomen, which may be evidence of a Covid-19 infection.
The researchers said that these symptoms include inflammation of the small and large intestines, pneumonitis and itching of the intestines (pneumoperitoneum).
He said that the symptoms are very rare and it can identify patients with modern diseases.
“It’s not necessary to look at these things to tell us that a patient has Covid-19. This could be one of several possible reasons,” Wilson said.
“But one of the possible reasons is a virus infection, and in an environment where Covid 19 is very popular, consider it and raise it as a potential referral therapist,” he added.
