The country’s Football Federation said on Thursday that Croatia defender Domgoz Vida was ruled out of a friendly against Turkey as he tested positive for the coronovirus.
The 31-year-old Vida, who plays for Turkish club Besiktas, was separated from the rest of the team after being replaced in Wednesday’s match.
Vida tested negative three days before the match in Turkey, but he was found positive on Wednesday after another round of testing for the Croatia team ahead of a Nations League match against Sweden on Wednesday.
“The Croatian national team’s medical service received preliminary information at the end of the break between the two halves that there was a potentially positive outcome,” the federation said in a statement.
The federation said that Vida would self-segregate in Istanbul for 10 days, while the rest of the squad would prepare for the match against Sweden.
Croatian media took recent photos of Vida hugging his teammates, including midfielder Luka Modric. The Turkish media also had pictures of Turkish players who were in close contact with Vida during the match on Wednesday.
Croatia, which fielded mostly reserve squads, drew 3-3 in the match.
