The toll from alleged alcohol consumption at Phulpur in Prayagraj rose to six with two more deaths on Saturday.
District Magistrate Bhanu Chandra Goswami said that a person and supplier running a liquor shop is among those arrested for the tragedy and the investigation is on. He said those found responsible for the tragedy will not be spared.
Superintendent of Police Dhawal Jaiswal said that about 10 people, who also consume alcohol, are admitted in a hospital. “First investigation report has been filed and seven people have been arrested.”
Some residents of Amilia, Arvasi, Khansar, Melan villages fell ill after bringing liquor from Amilia’s shop. Four of them died on Friday night.
District Excise Officer SB Modwell said that the license of the shop was given to a Sangeeta Jaiswal on July 24 through a lottery system. “The liquor samples collected from the shop have been sent to a forensic lab in Lucknow for testing.”
