Donald Trump pulled the Supreme Court to save his tax record

Washington: Former US President Donald Trump issued a statement in which he pulled up the US Supreme Court to prevent New York prosecutors from obtaining their tax records.
Earlier on Monday, US Supreme Court Justice Stephen Breyer refused to hold a lower court ruling in favor of former President Donald Trump to disclose his tax returns to a New York grand jury.
“The Supreme Court should never have allowed a ‘fishing expedition’, but they did,” Trump said on Monday. “It’s something that has never happened to a president before, it’s a fully controlled Democrat place, Democrat-inspired in New York City and the state, fully controlled and an overwhelming enemy of mine, dominating Governor Andrew Cuomo is.”
Trump further noted that the New York Attorney General’s investigation is a continuation of the largest political hunt in American history, noting that the investigation is similar to practices in third world countries and a threat to the foundations of independence in the United States. Trump also reiterated his stand that he was rigged and stolen in the 2020 US presidential election.
Monday’s ruling has undermined Trump’s ability to protect his tax returns from grand jury subpoenas, and further – but unlikely – US Supreme Court intervention in the case.
New York City District Attorney Cyrus Vance is seeking Trump’s tax return which went back to 2011.
Trump has claimed that his August 2019 grand jury sub-plan to Mazars USA to provide his tax returns was highly comprehensive and issued in bad faith.
Last summer, the Supreme Court rejected Trump’s first request to block the order, claiming that his position as US president did not prevent him from complying with the subpoena.
