The Drug Regulatory Authority of Pakistan (DRP) on Thursday approved two coronavirus vaccines for people over the age of 60. Geo News Reported
DRP officials said the decision was made during a body meeting – and was based on the recommendations of a six-member expert committee.
The body has approved vaccines to vaccinate against the Chinese synoform and the Sputnik V corona virus of Russia, while the former was already being used to vaccinate front-line health workers.
DRP officials said that until now, people up to the age of 60 were being vaccinated with the synoform vaccine, but now it will also be used to vaccinate citizens over the age of 60.
Elaborating on the basis of the decision, officials said they made the demand after examining data from China, Bahrain and the United Arab Emirates.
Pakistan, meanwhile, will be among 19 free vaccine recipients before June – more than a million doses – the Kovacs scheme announced on Tuesday.
The program will distribute approximately 23,238.2 million doses worldwide to promote coronavirus access in poor countries.
