The Election Commission of Pakistan (ECP) on Thursday appointed Air Hameed, a retired Grade 22 officer, as the new secretary of the Election Commission of Pakistan, 24 News HD TV channel reported.
He has been appointed for two years.
The ECP has also appointed Zafar Iqbal, a retired Grade 21 officer, as Special Secretary to the ECP.
Earlier, the Election Commission removed Dr Akhtar Nazir from the post of ECP secretary. According to a notification, Dr Akhtar Nazir was directed to report to the Establishment Division with immediate effect.
In May last year, the Election Commission of Pakistan (ECP) appointed Akhtar Nazir as Secretary ECP on deputation to replace Zafar Iqbal Hussain, who has been appointed Special Secretary ECP.
Nazir is an officer of the Pakistan Administrative Service (PAS) whose services were handed over to the ECP by the federal government on a petition. He was serving as Secretary Senate before his appointment to the ECP.
Prior to joining as Secretary ECP, he also served as Chief Secretary of Balochistan. He also holds leadership positions in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, Punjab and the federal government.
