The home side still lead Pakistan’s first innings as bowlers by 167 runs as Chris Woakes (15 *) looks to stabilize the innings with batting Jos Buttler (38 * off 106 balls). Pope (62) looked relatively confident as he scored his fifth Test half-century. However, the threat from Pakistan’s seamers is ever present and 17-year-old Naseem Shah got a delivery for a rapid rise in length, grabbing the bat and providing a catch at Gulab to Shadab Khan. Butler tried his luck at the start of the season but found a few scoring shots half an hour before lunch, ending his own tempo and innings. England resumed 92 on the third day while four recovered from three late 12 on the second day. The decision to select an extra seamer with all-rounder Ben Stokes, who is unlikely to bowl in the Test due to a fours injury, saw Vox come in at number seven, providing a lengthy role for the home team.

RECAP, DAY 2:
Ben Stokes suffered a dramatic top-order decline for the Ducks after Shan Masood’s superb century set him up for Pakistan at Old Trafford. By the stumps on the second day, the hosts were 92-4, trailing 12-3 in response to Pakistan’s first innings of 326, with opener Masood’s Test best of 156.
Oli Pope bowled Pakistan out for 46, Jos Buttler unbeaten at 15. But England were still 234 runs behind with no more batsmen left.
It took pace bowler Shaheen Afridi in the rain of runs in just four balls, before Mohammed Abbas lbw Rory Burns after playing two quick innings. Dom Sibli bowled a brilliant ball before Abbas bowled Stokes, standing well off his ground, a brilliant ball that hit the top of the off stump.
England was 12–3 with the Pakistan players on the field trying to compensate for the absence of their passionate fans in whatever closed doors series due to the coronovirus. .
Joe Root, England captain and pope kept Pakistan at bay with a score of around 50. But leg spinner Yasir Shah played a struggling 14 off 58 balls to Root, which was caught well after the catch by captain Mohammad Rizwan. Intention cut.
