Former Pakistani President Mamnoon Hussain passed away in Karachi on Wednesday, his son has confirmed.

According to Geo News , His son, Arsalan Mamnoon, said Hussein had cancer and had been in hospital for the past two weeks.

Hussain was the 12th President of Pakistan, who served under the PML-N from 2013 to 2018. He was one of the most senior leaders of the PML-N.

Originally a businessman, Mamnoon Hussain was born on December 23, 1940 in Agra, India. He started his political career in 1969 as a Muslim League. At the time when he was the president of the former Minister of State for External Affairs Zain Noorani, he was made the Joint Secretary of the Karachi Chapter of the League.

The deceased had an MBA degree from Mumtaz Institute of Business Administration (IBA) Karachi.

When Nawaz Sharif was in the opposition in 1993, he was active in the PML-N. Before Hussein was appointed Governor of Sindh by Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif in 1999 to serve in the post for less than six months, he had previously served as the provincial chief minister (Liaqat) for a key post. After the declaration of military rule in October 1999, Hussein sided with Nawaz Sharif when several PML-N leaders easily left the party.

Following his death, senior PML-N leaders, the President of Pakistan, the Speaker and Deputy Speaker of the National Assembly, and several other government and opposition leaders offered condolences.

The PML-N tweeted from its official account, “Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz (PML-N) President and Leader of the Opposition in the National Assembly Shahbaz Sharif has expressed grief over the death of former President Mamnoon Hussain.”

“Today we have lost a man who loved Pakistan and had a precious heart. He was a trusted, loyal and ideological ally of Nawaz Sharif.”

“He has been steadfast with the party and its leadership through all the ups and downs and he has never been successful.

His death is not only a loss to the party but also a personal loss. The former president was a living example of our Eastern values ​​and traditions, nobility and intellectual civilization.

In addition to being a linguist and writer, he was an amazing man who loved knowledge. His services to the country and the nation will be remembered.
