Kolkata: There will be complete lockout in West Bengal on 23, 25 and 29 July to fight the spread of COVID-19, a government official said on Tuesday.
He said that during the lockdown, all government and private offices, commercial establishments, public and private transport as well as emergency services would be barred from activities.
A government order states that movement of persons will be completely restricted between 10 am and 5 pm on three days, excluding essential and emergency activities.
The West Bengal government said on Monday that community broadcasts of the novel coronavirus have been recorded in some areas of the state and announced that there would be a full lockdown for two days every week until 31 August to prevent the spread of contagion.
This week, the total lockdown will come into effect on Thursday (July 23) and Saturday (July 25), the official said.
Next week, the lockout will come into effect from Wednesday i.e. July 29.
The second day of full lockout next week will be decided after the review meeting to be held on Monday.
The state government order, issued this evening, said emergency services including patients and pharmacies have been kept out of the lockdown by fire, electricity, water and conservation activities, movement of health workers, public and private transport.
Home delivery of cooked food in addition to courts and correctional services, agricultural activities, operations in tea estates, movement of intrastate and interstate goods will be allowed to function normally for three lockdown days.
The government order states that in general, physical distancing, wearing masks, health and hygiene protocols should be strictly followed.
