KARACHI: More than a dozen factories in Nooriabad and Kotri industrial areas have been shut down due to suspension of gas supply by Sui Southern Gas Company (SSGC), it came to light on Wednesday.

According to Geo NewsAdeel Siddiqui, vice-president of the Federation of Pakistan Chambers of Commerce, said the suspension of gas supply to the industrial zone had affected several other factories, including textile, yarn and cable companies.

He said that gas produced in Sindh was not being supplied to the factories. According to an agreement with the Ministry of Energy, it was decided that due to the difference between LNG and local gas, the government would increase the price of gas from Rs 786 to Rs 930 per mmbtu, but this was implemented. Instead of importing, the SSGC suspended gas completely.

He demanded that the gas needs of the industrial zone be met or else the export sector would be affected.
