Newly-elected Federal Minister for Finance Hamad Azhar on Thursday addressed Prime Minister Imran Khan with a blunt answer to a question from the chief executive.
At a meeting of the federal cabinet in Islamabad on Thursday, the prime minister asked the finance minister, “Why did the ECC approve the summary of sugar and cotton imports from India yesterday?”
Hammad responded bluntly in the presence of all cabinet members. “Mr. Prime Minister, you asked me to do this two weeks ago,” he said.
Cabinet members praised the finance minister for his straightforward simplicity. Later, the Prime Minister postponed the approval of the agenda of the Cabinet meeting.
A day after the ECC approved the import of cotton and sugar from India, the federal cabinet headed by Prime Minister Imran Khan rejected the summary, saying that unless New Delhi enacts controversial legislation with India, Pakistan will not trade with Indians. Illegally Occupied Jammu and Kashmir
Foreign Minister Shah Mehmood Qureshi, Interior Minister Sheikh Rashid Ahmed, Planning and Development Minister Asad Umar and Human Rights Minister Shirin Mazari strongly opposed the summary in favor of importing sugar and cotton from India.
