Hathras case: Sitaram Yechury, D Raja involved in protests at Jantar-Mantar – India news

Security was tightened around India Gate on Friday evening after protesters gathered at Jantar Mantar to demand justice for the victim of the Hathras gangrape case. The Aam Aadmi Party changed its protest site from India Gate to Jantar Mantar after CrPc Section 144 came into force, prohibiting any mass gathering in the India Gate area.

CPM general secretary Sitaram Yechury and CPI leader D Raja participated in the protest. “The UP government has no right to remain in power. Our demand is that justice be given, ”Yechury said.

However, there was no relocation to protest against the Bhima Army. Instead of gathering at India Gate at 5 pm, the Bhima Army chief Chandrashekhar Azad asked his supporters to gather at Jantar-Mantar. “Like a dictator, the police have closed the entire India Gate, showing dictatorship. But we will not let the demand for justice be weakened. Modi ji has to answer, ”the Bhim Army chief tweeted.

In a video message posted earlier in the day, Azad said that Prime Minister Narendra Modi needs to break his silence on the brutal rape of the woman. “The PM washed the feet of Dalits before the election but a Dalit daughter from Uttar Pradesh was brutally raped. We will organize a protest at India Gate at 5 pm today. We have to answer to the PM, ”he said.

The Bhim Army chief staged a protest at Gate No. 5 of Safdarjung Hospital on Tuesday, soon after the victim was declared dead. On Wednesday, Azad was placed under house arrest by the local police in Saharanpur, where he started a “dharna”.
