Melbourne Western Australia Cricket Association (WACA) Chief Christina Matthews Kicked out at Cricket australia To pick Brisbane in Perth as one of the venues for the high-profile Test series against India in the summer.
Matthews said the newly constructed Optus Stadium is superior to Gaba in every way. Instead, Perth will host a low-profile one-off test against Afghanistan in November.
The India series starts in Brisbane from 3 December, followed by games in Adelaide (11–15 December), Melbourne (December 26–30) and Sydney (3–7 January).
“In the last two years, all the metrics related to cricket have seen us overtake Brisbane in every field, be it crowds, broadcast ratings, better rain at that time of year, more corporate seats – just so many indicators – and A new stadium, ”Matthews was quoted as saying by FoxSports on Thursday.
Cricket Australia on Thursday confirmed its international schedule for the 2020-21 season.
“When the primary objective of Australian cricket is first fanfare, it is surprising that 10,000 members who paid money to support cricket year after year in this state have not been made the number one Test team for the tour this year.
Matthews said, “Last time (2014 India tour), we were told that our venue was not good enough and if we supported a new stadium, it would never happen again. And here we are again.” Old WACA Stadium.
India played in Perth when they toured with Australia last year and won the series by 146 runs in the second Test.
Gaba’s reinstatement came after the support of none other than Australia captain Tim Paine. Australia has not lost there in more than 30 years.
Matthews said that not hosting India would put him financially difficult.
“We clearly hope that our members will continue to support us, but we must factor in that AUD 3 or AUD 4 million hits for us on membership alone. They are not necessarily watching hardcore cricket fans. They are making decisions.
“We have been told commercially, Brisbane is more viable for Australian cricket and has a better schedule than anyone else in the eight-year tour period during 2015 to 2023.
“I’m not really personal for what’s going to happen in the next three years, but they were important reasons,” she said.
