Hundreds of nurses and some other north-corporation-run facilities at the Hindu Rao Hospital went on an indefinite strike on Monday over the “pending salary” for August-October.
Senior residents of the resident called a protest after the North Delhi Municipal Corporation released their fair wages by September following a strike led by the Nurses Welfare Association (NWA) of the largest municipal hospital.
The NWA on Saturday shot a letter to North Delhi Mayor Jai Prakash asking him not to pay salaries from August-October, saying it would “start an indefinite strike from November 2”.
“We had no choice but to go on strike. We also have a family. Does NDMC think that we will continue to work without pay. We had already done it for three months without paying in the interest of patients, ”said NWA chief Indumati Jamwal.
She said that the nurses of Kasturba Hospital, Rajen Babu Tuberculosis Hospital and Mrs. Girdhari Lal Maternity Hospital have also joined the stir.
“About 650 nurses are on strike,” she claimed.
Jamwal said that we hope that this strike will not be continued for long and our issues will be resolved. A meeting is to be held with North Delhi Mayor Jai Prakash on Monday.
Members of the Resident Doctors Association (RDA) of the 900-bed hospital had been protesting for several days recently and went on an indefinite strike, demanding the release of salaries for three months.
Seniors doctors under the banner of Municipal Doctors Association (MCDA) also went on an indefinite strike later, and the two unions stopped the stir on October 28.
