Selenium is another essential mineral that helps in the proper functioning of the thyroid glands. It is an antioxidant, which protects the thyroid gland from free radical damage. Brazil nuts, tuna, sardines, eggs and legumes are some excellent sources of selenium.

Iodine is a mineral required to make thyroid hormones. People suffering from iodine deficiency have a higher risk of hypothyroidism. Adding iodine-rich foods such as seaweed, fish, dairy, and eggs can help to overcome this deficiency.
