NEW DELHI: Olympic bronze medalist Sakshi Malik The Sports Ministry came under fire on Friday for dropping its name from the final list of Arjuna Award winners.
Ministry decides against bestowing Arjun on Sakshi and Weightlifter Meerabai Chanu As two have already been awarded with Rajiv Gandhi Khel Ratna Award.

Speaking to IANS, Sakshi said that she is disappointed with the government for ignoring her achievements.
“I always wanted to be called as Arjuna Award winner Sakshi Malik. Athletes do everything to win such accolades. They all want to win awards. That’s what inspires us.”
“I don’t know what to do to win Arjuna Award. I am happy to be honored with the Khel Ratna Award in 2016. And I respect it very much. But I always wanted Arjun. It was my dream, ”said a foggy witness.
Last week, a selection committee headed by Justice (retd) Mukundakam recommended 29 names for the Arjuna Award to the Sports Ministry. This was due to the fact that he had already won the country’s highest sporting honor, the Khel Ratna.
This year the athletes receiving the Arjuna Award are: Atanu Das (Archery), Duti Chand (Athletics), Satwik Sairaj Rankireddy, Chirag Chandrasekhar Shetty (Badminton), Vishesh Bhriguvanshi (Basketball), Subedar Manish Kaushik, Lovlina Borgohin (Boxing), Ishant Sharma, Deepti Sharma, Deepti Sharma, Deepti Sharma Anant (Equestrian), Sandhya Jhingan (Football), Aditi Ashok (Golf), Akashdeep Singh, Deepika (Hockey), Deepak (Kabaddi), Kale Sarika Sudhakar (Kho Kho), Dattu Baban Bhokanal (Rowing), Manu Bhakar, Saurabh Chaudhary (Shooting), Madhurika Suhas Patkar (table tennis), Divij Sharan (tennis), Shiv Keshavan (Winter Sports), Divya Kakran, Rahul Aware (wrestling), Suyesh Narayan Jadhav (Para Swimming), Sandeep (Para Athletics) and Manish Narwal (Para Shooting).
