What courses are offered for programming and data science?
IIT Madras offers online programs for the following courses – Diploma in Programming, Diploma in Data Science and BSc Degree in Programming and Data Science.
When will the application process for IIT Madras Data Science begin?
The starting date for the application process will be announced shortly. Originally, the last date to apply for the IIT Madras Data Science Program would be September 15, 2020.
Is the candidate required to qualify JEE for doing this course?
No, candidates are not required to appear for JEE to pursue programming and data science courses offered by IIT Madras. Even the current batch of students who are completing their class 12 in 2020 or who are currently enrolled in a different on-campus program anywhere in India can apply for this program. Graduates and working professionals may also adopt this program.
Who can join IIT Madras Data Science Program?
Candidates who are currently in college can adopt this course as a second degree. Anyone who has dropped out of or completed their bachelor’s degree can also apply for this course.
Are there any age restrictions to pursue this course?
Candidates should note that there is no age or stream or geographical restriction to pursue programming and data science courses offered by IIT Madras.
How can I apply?
Once the application process starts, eligible candidates can apply by filling the application form through the online portal – oniltegree.iitm.ac.in. More information about the application form and necessary documents will be made available soon.
What is the application fee?
Candidates will be required to pay an application fee of Rs 3000. Fees include qualifier process materials and fees for qualifying exams.
What is the fee structure?
The fee structure for each position depends on the course level that the learner has registered for course credit. For foundation level courses, the fee will be Rs 1000 per credit. For diploma / degree level courses, the fee will be Rs 2500 per credit.
Those candidates who belong to Scheduled Caste (SC) / Scheduled Tribe (ST) categories are eligible for 50% fee waiver. Disabled person (PwD> = 40% disability). If a learner is PwD> = 40% and belongs to SC / ST class, then 75% fee is waived.
The fee for repeating the entire course is the same as the full course fee. The fee for repeating the last term examination only is Rs 1000 for foundation level courses and Rs 2000 for diploma / degree level courses.

The fee structure described in the above table is applicable to the situation when a learner successfully / passes each course in an effort. Every time a learner does not pass the course, the fee for that course will have to be paid again, as per the criteria given in section learners, who do not pass the course, will have to re-register.
Are these official diplomas and IIT Madras degrees?
Yes. IIT Madras Senate has approved diploma (s) and degrees in Programming and Data Science. The candidates who complete these courses become IIT Madras alumni.
What is a qualifier process?
Candidates are required to complete online courses and four weeks of assignments. The candidate who achieves the minimum required score in a weekly assignment over four weeks will be eligible to write the qualifier test broadly based on the four-week content.
Students who have obtained the minimum required marks in the qualifier examination are allowed to register for foundation level courses.
What is the program structure?
The program is divided into three levels that are to be completed strictly in sequence – Founder level (8 courses), Diploma level (6 programming courses + 6 data science courses), and Degree level (11 courses).
