In the recovery of Covid-19 patients, antibodies are rapidly depleted: a study

Toronto: Researchers now claim that the level of antibodies in the blood of patients with Covid 19 drops rapidly when the symptoms subside after the virus is eliminated from their bodies.
According to the study, published in the journal MBU, if composite plasma is ultimately shown to have a clear benefit, then it needs to be collected over a specific time window after recovery.
“We don’t want to transmit the virus, just transmit antibodies,” said Andreas Fanzi, author of the study from the University of Montreal, Canada.
“But at the same time, our work shows that plasma’s ability to neutralize viral particles is declining during these first weeks,” Finzi added.
The spike protein of SARS-CoV-2 plays an important role in helping to catch the virus and attack the host cells.
Antibodies produced by the body’s immune system bind to a part of this protein and inhibit the ability of this “key” to engage the host’s cellular “lock,” Fenzi said. Prevents the viral particle from infecting the cell host.
Previous studies have shown that antibodies against the stork cov-2 spike protein peak are two to three weeks after the onset of symptoms.
An earlier cross-sectional study of more than 100 patients in the Fanzi group found that between three and six weeks after the onset of symptoms, the ability of the plasma virus to neutralize significantly decreased.
In the new longitudinal study, the research team analyzed blood samples collected from 31 people recovered from Covid 19 at one-month intervals.
They measured the levels of immunoglobulins that work against the Corona virus S protein and tested the ability of antibodies to neutralize the virus.
The researchers observed changes in the levels of individual patients but indicated a consistent aggregate signal: the levels of immunoglobulin G, A and M that target the bound site decrease between six and ten weeks after the onset of symptoms.
During the same period, the ability of antibodies to neutralize the virus also declined, the study said.
