India has approved Johnson & Johnson’s single-dose Covid 19 vaccine for emergency use, said Mandavia, India’s health minister.

The pharmaceutical company had applied for approval for emergency use of its vaccine, the company said on Friday. J&J had said the shot would be brought to India through a supply agreement with domestic vaccine maker Biological E Limited.

Indian health officials have so far approved the use of AstraZeneca, Bharat Biotech, Russia’s Gamaliya Institute and modernized vaccines.

According to a Reuters report, cases of the corona virus worldwide exceeded 200 million at the start of the week, as the highly contagious delta puts pressure on vaccination rates and healthcare systems in various areas.

India has reported an average of 30,000 to 40,000 new corona virus cases a day since July, and the federal government has warned that although the number has dropped to more than 400,000 a day since the outbreak of the second deadly wave, The threat has not abated.
