Defense sources said that India successfully test-fired a medium-range surface-to-air missile (MRSAM) off the Odisha coast on Wednesday.
Sources said the missile was fired from the ground mobile launcher at launch pad number-1 of the Integrated Test Range (ITR) around 3.55 pm and it hit the target with precision.
An unmanned air vehicle (UAV), the ‘Banshee’ was first flown into the air, which was hit by MRSAM.
The Defense Research and Development Organization (DRDO) has jointly developed the missile with Israel Aerospace Industries.
MRSAM is manufactured by Bharat Dynamics Limited.
He said that after joining the Indian Army, the missile would greatly increase the combat effectiveness of the defense forces.
Sources said that various radars and electro-optic devices were monitored throughout the mission, from launch to sinking at sea.
A revenue department official said that prior to the trial, the Balasore district administration temporarily settled 8,100 people within 2.5 km of the launch pad in consultation with DRDO.
