India tests new generation air-to-air missile India News

Hyderabad: The Defense Research and Development Organization (DRDO) on Friday successfully tested a new generation Akash (Akash-NG) missile from the coast of Odisha at Chandipur’s Integrated Test Range, Chandipur. The test was carried out against a high-speed unmanned aerial vehicle, which was successfully intercepted by a missile.
Flight tests have confirmed the functioning of a complete missile system consisting of missiles, including indigenously advanced RF seekers, launchers, multi-function radar and command, control and communications systems. The Defense Ministry said the experiment was carried out in the midst of bad weather conditions, proving that the weapons system has all the weather capabilities.
The performance of this system was verified by the data obtained from various radars, telemetry and electro optical tracking systems deployed by ITR, Chandipur. A team of Indian Air Force officers observed the test.
The missile was successfully tested on July 21 without meeting all the requirements of the seeker’s mission.
Defense Minister Rajnath Singh has congratulated DRDO, Indian Air Force and Industry on the second successful Akash-NG flight test in three days. He said that the development of this state-of-the-art missile system would prove to be a force to be reckoned with in the Indian Air Force’s air defense capabilities.
Dr. G. Satish Reddy, Secretary, Department of Defense, R&D and Chairman, DRDO, congratulated the teams on the successful test of Akash NG, which is capable of preventing rapid and erratic aerial threats.
