India vs Australia: ‘He needed to do something special to defeat Australia’, Guha explains how Rahane inspired India to win Melbourne Test – Cricket

Former England bowler and commentator Isa Guha commended stand-in captain Ajinkya Rahane for leading Team India to a resounding victory in the Boxing Day Test against Australia in Melbourne on Tuesday.

Rahane stepped into Virat Kohli’s shoes after returning home with his wife and family for the birth of his first child after the 1st Test. Rahane broke the match-winning century and made some significant changes to the team’s bowling format and field placements and got the Australian team in its court. These reduced decisions helped India beat Australia by 8 wickets to tie the series 1–1.

Speaking to Sports Today, Guha said Rahane kept the entire game calm and ensured that tourists do not panic after the Adelaide horror.

If there was someone who would have pacified the dressing room and ensured that India did not panic after the devastation in Adelaide, it was going to be Ajinkya Rahane. With Virat Kohli’s home run and India losing to Mohammed Shami, India still come together incredibly.

“Ajinkya Rahane has a calm air of confidence about him. He has been successful many times in the past but has not performed as well as we have in the last few years. It was incredibly measured, especially with his performance, to be able to lead in the way he did. This was not his previous century on Zee when he was scoring at a high strike rate. It was more disciplined, he dropped balls outside the off stump. He gave himself time and eventually when the ball was to be hit, he hit it.

The commentator from the cricketer further explained the difference between Kohli and Rahane’s leadership. He described how tourists pushed themselves to do something special to defeat Australia.

“There were some difficult moments, the few shots we saw were incredibly classy and it hugs the man. Virat Kohli leads his way, Rahane moves his way through his character which is more calm and reserved. He was the representative for the rest of the team, I found Vibe that it was a galvanized group as Virat Kohli was not and he knew that he needed to do something special to be able to defeat Australia and that’s all you could do. A team, ”Isa Guha continued.
