New Delhi: Chennai Super Kings (CSK) will leave for UAE on August 21 for the Indian Premier League (IPL) 2020, team CEO KC Viswanathan said on Tuesday.
Before leaving for the UAE, the team will attend a training camp in Chennai at the MA Chidambaram Stadium (Chepak), Vishwanathan said, speaking with ANI, stating that Dubai would be the base camp for the three-time IPL champions .
“The team will start practice mostly in Chepauk by 16 August. Dhoni and Raina will come along with other members of the team from 14-15 August and we will leave for UAE on 21 August,” he said.
The CEO of CSK also confirmed that the team plans to take 8-10 net bowlers with them, but nothing has been finalized yet.
The 13th edition of the IPL will be played for 53 days, from 19 September to 10 November, in three locations – Abu Dhabi, Sharjah and Dubai. The final match is to be played on a weekday, ie on Tuesday, for the first time in the history of the T20 tournament.
On Monday, IPL chairman Brijesh Patel confirmed that the board has received government approval to move ahead with the IPL in the UAE.
This time, both afternoon and evening matches will be played half an hour earlier than normal.
“IPL 2020 will be played from September 19 and the final will be played on November 10, 2020. The 53-day tournament will start from 10:30 am to 15:30 IST, while the evening matches will start at 19:30 IST.” The release said.
Earlier today, the Emirates Cricket Board also confirmed that they have received official approval from the BCCI to host the IPL 2020.
The IPL was originally scheduled to be played from March 29, but was postponed due to the coronavirus epidemic.
