IPL 2020: England and Australia players coming from UK will go through 36 hours of quarantine

New Delhi: The Indian Premier League franchise will be breathing a sigh of relief as all the 21 Australian and English players arriving in the United Arab Emirates from the United Kingdom will undergo just 36 hours of quarantine instead of the previously scheduled six days.
All franchises and Australian players following the white ball series in the UK had appealed to reduce the quarantine period and the BCCI, led by Sourav Ganguly, has been able to successfully resolve the issue with local authorities in the UAE.
“Yes, I can confirm that all English and Australian players will now have to undergo 36-hour quarantine instead of six days. The matter has been settled and most teams are now available to their big stars from the very first game. Will do it. ” A senior development officer of the IPL told PTI on conditions of anonymity.
Steve Smith, David Warner, Joffra Archer, Jose Butler will arrive in the UAE from the UK late Thursday (UAE time) and will undergo RT-PCR testing for COVID-19 upon arrival.
“They have done a rapid test before boarding (flight) and will pass through another upon arrival. Otherwise, strong testing protocols will be followed as usual. The rationale behind the move is that all players enter through a bio bubble. Have been. One more, “said the BCCI veteran.
PTI had earlier reported that a senior player, an Australian superstar, had written a letter to BCCI president Ganguly requesting three days of quarantine instead of six.
The BCCI has spoken to at least three franchise executives who have Australian and English stars and are very happy with the results.
“The BCCI did a great job in reducing the quarantine period to 36 hours. That means teams like Chennai Super Kings (Josh Hazlewood and Tom Curren), Rajasthan Royals (Smith, Butler, Archer) were able to give all their players their first games. “Ditto for Kings XI Punjab, which has Glenn Maxwell in the roster and Alex Carrie in Delhi Capital,” said a franchise official.
The only franchise that was unaffected by the six-day quarantine period was Kolkata Knight Riders, the first game of the season on 23 September, with Eoin Morgan, Tom Banton and Pat Cummins in their ranks.
