IPL 2020: ‘I am really disappointed’ – Brian Lara is not happy with the selection of KXIP’s team against Kolkata Knight Riders – Cricket

West Indies batsman Brian Lara on Saturday expressed his ‘disappointment’ over the selection of the Kings XI Punjab team for the IPL 2020 match against Kolkata Knight Riders in Abu Dhabi.

Lara said that KXIP should include Chris Gayle in their playing XI against KKR. Instead, he dismissed left-arm fast bowler Sheldon Cottrell and turned England all-rounder Chris Jordan back to the side.

“I’m really disappointed (that’s not Gayle). Chris Gayle is a fear factor … we’ve seen Jordan, so far not been very good in the IPL, I’m not saying he’s a bad player But I think batting with Chris Gayle is something they should do, ”Lara said at the pre-match show at Star Sports.

KXIP decided to retain Maxwell and Lara said that he really had no problem with it. He said that KXIP should include Gayle in place of Cottrell and rely on their Indian bowling line to work.

“Imagine batting with KL Rahul, Chris Gayle, Mayank Agarwal and Glenn Maxwell, they could have done anything. So yes Cottrell and I will bring Chris Gayle to the fore and trust his Indian bowling attack.

Gayle, who holds the record for most runs and most sixes in T20, is not yet a game in the Indian Premier League.

Although KXIP head coach Anil Kumble said that he wanted to include Gayle in the playing XI in his last match against SRH, he had to change plans when Gayle was ill.

“Today we wanted Chris Gayle in the playing XI but unfortunately he is ill,” Kumble told host broadcasters during SRH’s innings.

When Mark Nicholls again questioned Kumble about Gayle, the former India captain and head coach said: “Yes Gayle was going to play, but he’s down with food poisons for a few days.”

There was no official word on Gayle’s health from KXIP before the start of his match against KKR.

Meanwhile, Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR) decided to bat first by winning the toss on Saturday. Made a change in their playing eleven from their last match against Chennai Super Kings. The side led by Dinesh Karthik was brought to Prasidh Krishna in place of Shivam Mavi.
