IPL 2020: Michael Slater selected Shreyas Iyer as captain of his fantasy IPL team of the season – Cricket

The Indian Premier League has reached its half-position with stiff competition still in play for the 13th season playoffs. While the Delhi Capitals have reached the top position, Mumbai Indians and Royal Challenge are fighting for second place. Competition for third place is tough as many teams finish fourth.

The performances by several cricketers this season have also been impressive. While celebrities like Virat Kohli, Rohit Sharma, MS Dhoni, Pat Cummins, Jasprit Bumrah, Steve Smith, or Jose Butler have blown hot and cold, many youngsters have made a name for themselves by shining. Players like Devdutt Padikkal, Ishan Kishan, Rahul Tewatia or Sam Curran have surprised many with their stunning performances.

So, if a dream team were to be picked up after the halfway point then who would come in the line-up? Former Australia batsman and current IPL commentator Michael Slater was asked to do so and made some surprising decisions in his fantasy IPL team of the season, with Shreyas Iyer being named captain of the team.

Here is Slater’s fantasy team of the season:

1 Devdutt Padikkal, 2 Mayank Agarwal, 3 Shreyas Iyer (C), 4 Ishan Kishan, 5 AB de Villiers, 6 Rishabh Pant, 7 Krunal Pandya, 8 Yuzvendra Chahal, 9 Rashid Khan, 10 Kagiso Rabada, 11 Trent Boult.

Slater’s team looks very strong on paper with Rabada and Bault, while Rashid, Chahal and Krunal look after the spin department.

He chose Padakkal as the opener alongside Aggarwal, based on the current performance of both players. They are in the race for Orange Cap. It is to be noted that Kohli or Rohit had no place. The middle order is commanded by captain Iyer, wicketkeeper batsman Rishabh Pant, Ishan Kishan and AB de Villiers. In Slater’s team, Krunal will be tasked with hitting orders late.
